Description: Amborella trichopoda is the only member of a mono-typic family endemic to New Caledonia in the South Pacific. It is widely regarded to be the most primitive extant angiosperm in the world.
It is a shrub with tracheids but no vessel elements, simple, alternately arranged leaves and imperfect flowers. Plants are dioiecious.
