Country of Origin: Australia
Habitat: tropical rainforest tree
Description: Small evergreen tree of tropical rainforest, with a limited distribution in northern Queensland, Australia. Seed development is unique among plants. Embryos have multiple cotyledons, and develop exposed to the environment after the endosperm, seed coat and fruit tissue wither away while still on the parent tree. The tennis ball-sized naked embryos eventually drop from the tree and germinate.
