Description: Grown from seed from a Ginkgo tree in Hiroshima, Japan that survived the atomic bomb in 1945. The seeds were sent to UConn by Green Legacy Hiroshima, a group that protects and distributes propagations of hibakujumoku--atomic bombing survivor trees--in order to promote global peace and a message of caution and hope.

Provenance:
Seeds from Hiroshima, Japan, from Green Legacy Hiroshima. GLC site 25, Shukkeien Garden, Kaminoboricho, Naka-ku, Hiroshima-shi, 1370 m from hypocenter. The seed parent is a ca. 200 year old Ginkgo tree with a trunk that leans towards the site of the atomic blast. Seven seeds imported by San Diego Botanic Garden received Sep. 19, 2024.
