Edithcolea grandis

Common Name: Persian Carpet Flower

Family: Apocynaceae

Country of Origin: East Africa and Horn of Africa

Description: A spiny, succulent milkweed-relative with spectacular flowers. Persian Carpet Flower is tropical and very sensitive to cool temperatures. The roots and main stems can rot out in winter, and the growing tips are susceptible to powdery mildew in cool weather. Keeping the plants warmer in winter, providing supplemental light, and appropriate application of fungicides, are useful in our temperate climate. The plants can be restarted from cuttings in spring if the roots rot. They are heavy feeders in summer.
