Herb with shoots to 1.2 m, leaves entirely green, base of stem deep red.  
Inflorescence terminal on leafy shoot, primary bracts deep green, bracteoles pale green and hidden within shoot.  
Flowers: corolla tube white, petals and lateral staminodes pink
