Common name: Bug Plant
Family: Roridulaceae
Synonym(s):
Country of Origin: Heuningvlei, Cederberg (Western Cape, S. Africa)
Description: Carnivorous plant with sticky hairs that trap insects, but the leaves do not secrete enzymes as with some carnivores.
There is a symbiotic relationship with an assasin bug - Pameridea marlothi - which moves about freely on the plant and is not trapped by the sticky hairs. Pameridea eats the trapped insects on Roridula, and the bugs' excretions provide nitrogen and other nutrients for the plant.
