Aristaloe aristata

Common Name: Torch Plant

Family: Asphodelaceae

Country of Origin: South Africa

Description: Aristaloe aristata (syn. Aloe aristata) is native to the Malutis and Drakensberg mountains in Lesotho.I have found it at 7500 feet elevation in the Sehlabathebe National Park, where the climate is generally cold dry winters(to 15F) and mild wet summers. This area is the watershed for the Orange(Senqu) river.

The plant in cultivation is very easy. It is very tolerant of water and sun,but will shrivel up under drought conditions. It is a prolific offshoot producer, spring flowering.
