Deciduous shrub to small tree, to 20 feet or more; leaves oblong-elliptic to rounded, to 2.75 inches long, glabrous or pubescent on veins; calyx tube rounded in bud, not ribbed, glabrous, petals pink, white or purple, to 1.125 inches long, the blade cordate-orbicular, crisped, stamens 36-42, ovary glabrous.
